Jay-Z had a Black Album, The Beatles had a White Album; we’re not really down with instruments or Cubase so we’ve stuck to producing a Red Magazine. As the old riddle goes ‘What’s Black and White and Red all over?….a newspaper’. It’s called the ‘newspaper riddle’. Well, we’re a magazine and it still applies. I’ve always preferred answering it with ‘a sunburnt penguin’ myself, which probably says a lot. Red is certainly an emotive colour; passion, war, tribalism, death, money, ‘beauty’ for Russians; choose your association.
It’s actually amazing what you find out in the course of researching a theme. Did you know, for example, that the most common red food colourings are made by crushing beetles? Does that mean vegetarians shouldn’t eat red food? Perhaps…especially tomatoes, that were originally thought to be poisonous. There’s a load of red influenced content this month. We contrast of island life to life on the red carpet, examine the history of the ‘oldest profession’ in Jersey and the cars that will keep you away from the red line without compromising on style.
We’ve got red for the home, red gadgets, and events from the red dot
crew. Talking of events, thanks to the hundreds of you that joined us at our Gallery Kidnapped ‘Malice in Wonderland’ New Year’s Eve event. We were amazed by the costumes, the thumping beats and musical skills of Clique and Rocksteady and the talents of ‘Jersey Elvis’ who brought in 2010 for 600 of us with a memorable rendition of ‘Suspicious Minds’. Priceless.
You can see pictures in the paparazzi pages.
It has been a pretty hectic start to the year for Gallery. Our feet still haven’t touched the ground since NYE. We’ve just launched our www.places.je property website and Places magazine will be fortnightly from February for all you house hunters. You’ll also shortly be able to get your hands on this years Appetite eating guide. We have a lot planned for Appetite in 2010 so watch this space.
Gallery are not at home in a ‘real’ office, with real phone lines (we’ve had one handheld we had to throw about for the last 5 years) that won’t be engaged all the time so we’re here for you pretty much 24/7. If you’re planning on giving us a call bear with us though, we’re still learning how to use them.
We look forward to bringing more in every way in 2010
