New Bloom at Orchid
Orchid Communications is pleased to announce the appointment of Zara Blake as Account Executive. Zara recently moved back to the Island after graduating from Bournemouth University with a 2.1 BA (Hons) degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications. Zara is a former Jersey College for Girls student. In her spare time she is a dedicated netball player, having been Netball Captain of the Bournemouth University 1st Team, for which she was awarded a University Sports Award for Performance and Dedication to Netball 2006-2007. She is also a RAD Advanced 1 qualified dancer in ballet, modern, jazz and tap.

Shani now at Horizon Investments
She joins the company from Orbital Independent Financial Advisers where she had responsibility for a number of their high net worth clients. In her new role, she will focus on expanding the financial advisory and investment arm of the business, as well as helping to further develop the local market. Shani has over 20 years of experience in banking and investments. She is currently studying for her advanced level investment qualifications and is also in training for a week-long trek across South Africa in late October to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. We mentioned this last month but forgot to say where Shani was working! All the best in the new role Shani!

Head of Private Client Trust Appointed
Standard Bank has appointed Steven Bowen as Head of its Private Client Trust business in Jersey. Mr Bowen will be responsible for managing the bank?s Private Client trust business in Jersey and he will also assist in developing new business. Mr Bowen (43) is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers; holds a BSc (Hons) in Financial Services and the STEP Company Law and Practice Diploma in International Trust Management.

Lucie moves from toffee to telecoms
Airtel-Vodafone is pleased to announce the appointment of Lucie Bennett as Partner Manager. Lucie is from Jersey and joined Airtel-Vodafone in June. Prior to that she was Assistant Manager at Thorntons Confectioners in Jersey, where she had full financial responsibility for the day to day running of the store, whilst managing a team of six staff. During her time there, the Jersey store team won ?Area Store of the Year?, the first time ever for the Southwest region. Prior to Thornton?s, Lucie spent a couple of years in the Retail and Hospitality industry in the Isle of Wight, gathering valuable customer service skills. In her spare time Lucie enjoys reading, medieval history and the outdoors pursuits

Optimus has continued to strengthen its position as a leading boutique recruitment specialist with the senior appointments of Nikki Guyer (Director) and Laura Rigby (Senior Consultant).Both Nikki and Laura are Chartered Accountants and bring with them a wealth of specialist knowledge and experience within accounting, funds and offshore administration. Nikki graduated from Warwick University before training with Arthur Andersen in their audit and assurance division in Jersey. Laura graduated in Law from Glasgow University, before qualifying as a CA with Ernst & Young in their corporate tax division. Laura moved to Jersey from Scotland in 2005 to enjoy a successful career with one of the island?s leading fiduciary service providers specialising in the provision of offshore administration services.

Announces Double Director Promotion
PricewaterhouseCoopers Channel Islands LLP is continuing to strengthen its team of Directors with the announcement of a double promotion.
Two members of staff in the Channel Islands firm?s Jersey office have been promoted to Director level. Mike Byrne provides Assurance services to a wide range of clients within the financial services sector. Mike focuses on the audit of Private Equity funds and structured finance vehicles and is as a member of PwC?s European Securitisation Focus Group. Chris Stuart also provides Assurance services to a wide variety of clients. A specialist in Investment Management, Chris deals with a significant amount of real estate work, in addition to plain vanilla funds, hedge funds, private equity structures and funds of funds. Chris will focus his expertise on the more complex and sophisticated investment structures.

Le Gallais & Luce appoint Practice Manager
Local law firm Le Gallais & Luce has appointed Martin Orchard as Practice Manager. Martin, who first moved to Jersey in 1974, brings with him extensive knowledge and experience, having had over ten years experience in the administration of law firms and being a diploma member of the Institute of Legal Cashiers and Administrators. Martin?s new role will see him manage all elements of internal administration and work closely with the partners to ensure that the profile and reputation of the firm remains consistently high within the island. His past experience as Practice Manager for a UK law firm and seven years with a major local law firm will assist him in achieving this.

Chris Barry appointed as Director
Ernst & Young LLP has appointed Chris Barry as a director of Assurance and Advisory Services. Mr Barry has a background in asset management and extensive experience in both private banking and wealth management. He also worked on a team that advised the financial services industry prior to the introduction of the Jersey Expert Funds regime. Mr Barry, 34, obtained a first class degree in civil engineering from Southampton University before training as an accountant. Since qualifying, he has worked in a number of audit roles at PwC and most recently as a Senior Manager at the firm. Mr Barry is married and enjoys both watching and playing football in his spare time. He is also a keen novice golfer.
