Howdy Partner

It’s great to have someone in your corner. Whether it’s a romantic significant other, a business partner, dance partner or a sporting companion. Annie Lennox’s ‘Behind every great man, there has to be a great women’ seems a bit linear in these days of exponential genders, but it’s always good to know someone’s got your back, even if they identify as a dinosaur.

Our first bumper edition of 2023 celebrates all of the scenarios of association mentioned above. Our annual Bridal Bible supplement offers advice for those hoping to solidify a lifetime of companionship, arguably the strongest of partnerships. There are a lot of things to consider and if you can make it through the wedding planning process, you’re on the right track!

With the regeneration of the Opera House at last on a purposeful track, it seems fitting that we have our own ballet school to make full use of the beautiful auditorium. We featured the artistic director, Carolyn Rose Ramsay, last year and when she suggested we use some of the new dancers in a future shoot, we could never have imagined how effectively Danny Evans would use them as the cast for our incredible Underwear Edit shoot. See it on page 76. We kept the shoot focused on the images but you can also meet the dancers in the Last Word on page 147.

Agenda, our business section, celebrates not just partnerships, but a sisterhood. We profile some of Jersey’s high-flying women who are dominating their chosen career paths in our Women in Business feature on page 93. We also meet couples and partners who support each other in the creative arts with Creative Partnerships (page 116).

Add to all that some new season interiors trends for you to match together for 2023,  a great Alpine-inspired fashion shoot, a local partnership that led to a Netflix hit and a few faces of revellers from 2023 and we’ve got a well-rounded edition.  Thanks for picking it up!

Absence and fondness

I saw an Instagram reel the other day where the aspiring parent-influencing content creator claimed that holidays aren’t holidays once you have children; you just spend time looking after your kids in a different location. I suppose that’s true, to an extent. Regardless, like many islanders with children, we hot-foot it onto a ferry or plane at half term to make use of those precious moments away from the school run. I’m finishing up this edition while being asked what’s for dinner, but in France. Magnifique.
