Grand Jersey appoints head chef
Daniel Vella, 26, has been promoted to head chef at Grand Jersey, a role which will see him oversee the running of the brasserie restaurant, Victoria’s and banqueting kitchen.
Mr Vella, who has been employed at Grand Jersey for three years, began training at the Institute of Tourism Studies in Malta while beginning his career as a commis chef at the Corinthia Palace, also in Malta. Following his training, Mr Vella moved to the UK and secured the position of commis chef at the AA 4 red star and 2 rosette Rhinefield House Hotel in Hampshire. Mr Vella excelled while at Rhinefield and was promoted three times from commis chef to chef de partie to senior chef de partie and finally to junior sous chef, all within four years.
Following his four years at Rhinefield House Mr Vella relocated to Jersey to take up the position of sous chef at Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa working with executive head chef, Richard Allen, who has recently been shortlisted for a prestigious Hotel Catey award in the category of Hotel Chef of the Year, under 250 covers. After only one year at Grand Jersey, Mr Vella was quickly promoted to senior sous chef before this recent promotion to head chef.
Mr Vella is passionate about making sure his team strive to maintain the ultimate five-star standard and is also closely involved with training the students who come to Grand Jersey each year from Malta.
In addition to Mr Vella’s promotion, colleague, Elton Abela, has also been promoted to sous chef of Grand Jersey’s fine dining restaurant, Tassili.
