A Grand Entrance

This property in St Lawrence is an absolute gem, with myriad beautiful features throughout, but the undeniable showstopper has to be the entrance hall. While the grand front door, surrounded by stunning stained glass panels that are entirely unlike the potentially old-fashioned  type you might imagine – was there not a photograph of them above, that is – hints at what might lie behind as you approach from the outside, the reality is, in fact, even more impressive.

The vast entrance hall is akin to an atrium, centrally-located, open and with a beautifully tiled floor, exposed granite walls flanking the grand, wide staircase leading the eye all the way to the top of this vaulted masterpiece’s skylights and exposed ceiling beams. Presumably added more recently to join the two adjacent original buildings together, it’s a jaw-dropping entrance to an otherwise traditional farmhouse.

Renovated sympathetically to retain the original style while a smattering of more contemporary touches have been incorporated, such as the bright accent colours in some of the bedrooms and a chequerboard tiled floor in one of the reception rooms. On the subject of contemporary touches, the current owners have also added a gym and games room and an indoor pool complex that sports its own changing rooms – perfect for entertaining or keeping family young and old alike active all year round.

Set in rural surroundings in St Lawrence, this spacious family home is ideally located for ease of access to all areas of the island while retaining a tranquil air. There’s space for all the family with five bedrooms, plus an additional two bedrooms within the integral cottage, providing flexible two-generation or staff accommodation. The generous, sweeping, gated driveway provides an expansive parking area – in addition to garaging for two cars – and the property includes several vergees of adjacent agricultural land in addition to the well-maintained lawned gardens and grounds. Immaculately presented, this house is a testament to the current owners who’ve gone the extra mile to blend contemporary style with traditional comfort in a way that’s sympathetic towards the history of the building. Exposed original beams contrast with colourful walls that might be considered a statement elsewhere, yet here they blend seamlessly into their surroundings. As you might expect, the rooms of this house are generously-sized, including the kitchen, with ample work surfaces to allow even the longest of guestlists to be catered for. If you’re a fan of entertaining,  snap this gem up while you can, just in time for restrictions on gatherings to be relaxed. It’s the perfect excuse to celebrate by throwing a party. So, the only questions that need be asked is; what are you waiting for?
